Alarm System

Your go-to security measure is an alarm system, preferably one installed by an armed response company. One problem is the homeowners get complacent and forget to regularly test their alarm system. Too often when there has been a break-in we find that either the alarm systems weren’t functioning properly because they have not been tested or maintained.

Burglar Bars

Proforce Security suggests putting burglar bars on the outside of the windows, even though they may not be aesthetically pleasing. Ensure they are high-quality bars that are professionally installed. Lower quality burglar bars are weaker and can be broken.

Perimeter Security

Electric fences, barbed wire and spikes are very good deterrents. Criminals do not only look at how to get into properties. They also look at how easily they can get out of a property if they are beings chased by SAPS or security companies.

Exterior Lighting

We recommend exterior lighting, and even better if it’s motion controlled. Even the most hardened burglar is sure to feel like a deer in the headlights when they find themselves suddenly illuminated. It will also alert neighbors.

Signage

It has shown that properties that do not have security signs outside their properties have had more burglaries and attempted burglaries than properties that do display security signs. Other signs such as, “beware of the dog” have also proven to be effective. Signs that notify people that there are CCTV cameras on the property are also a deterrent.

Good Neighbors

The classic approach to home security is making friends with the neighbors. That means forming a neighborhood watch, and relying on neighbors to keep a watch on your home, especially when you are on vacation . They can make sure your trash and mail don’t pile up, so as not to make it obvious that you’ve temporarily vacated the home.
